Raw Banana Kofta Curry

Hello, my dear friends, I hope you all are doing fine and staying at home following the lockdown guidelines. I know it's a long time since we all are stuck at home but believe me we shall together overcome this situation. YES, one thing we need to understand and follow religiously and i.e. social distancing for the next couple of months or more. We need to adapt ourselves to this Corona situation.

Anyway, the thing which is keeping us happy in this situation is nothing but the food. This time I prepared Raw Banana Kofta Curry. Usually, we buy riped bananas from the market, peel it and gulp it down but do you know what amazing health benefits are hidden in raw bananas? They are not just good for making banana chips but they have numerous nutritional values too.

The green banana is eaten either cooked or boiled but you can fry it too. They are good source of fiber, vitamins, minerals and contain starch that may help control blood sugar, manage weight, and lower blood cholesterol levels.

So, considering all those nutritional values in mind, I thought of posting a recipe with Raw Bananas. With that said, why not make Koftas from them. They are incredibly delicious and go well with rice or any kind of parathas or chapatis.

Let's begin with the recipe:

Ingredients:

For Making Koftas:

1. Raw Banana (boiled): 3
2. Potatoes (boiled): 3 (medium size)
3. Onions (finely chopped): 1 medium size
4. Besan/ Gram Flour: 4 tbsp
5. Coriander Leaves (chopped): 1/4 cup
6. Green Chilies (chopped): 2
7. Ginger-Garlic Paste: 1 tbsp
8. Turmeric Powder: a pinch
9. Red Chilli Powder: 1 tsp
10. Cumin Powder: 2 tsp
11. Coriander Powder: 2 tsp
12. Garam Masala Powder: 2 tsp
13. Salt: to taste
14. Oil: for frying the koftas

For Making Gravy:

1. Onions (finely chopped): 2 big size
2. Tomato Puree: 3 (big size)
3. Coriander Leaves (chopped): 1/4 cup
4. Green Chilies: 2
5. Ginger-Garlic Paste: 1 tbsp
6. Fresh Cream: 4 tsp
7. Hing/ Asafoetida: 1 tsp
8. Fennel Seeds: 1 tsp
9. Fenugreek Seeds: 1 tsp
10. Kasuri Methi: 2 tbsp
11. Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder: 1 tsp
12. Red Chilli Powder: 1 tsp
13. Cumin Powder: 2 tsp
14. Coriander Powder: 2 tsp
15. Garam Masala Powder: 2 tsp
16. Salt: to taste
17. Oil: for cooking

Method:

For Making the Koftas:

1. Take a bowl and grate the boiled bananas and boiled potatoes. You can mash them too but grating them gives a nice texture to the koftas.

2. Add besan, chopped coriander leaves, ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chilies, salt, a pinch of turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, and chopped onions.

3. Mix everything well with your hands until it forms a smooth dough.

4. Now grease your hands with oil and make koftas using a sufficient amount of mixture and rolling it into small lemon size balls.

5. Heat oil in a pan and fry the koftas on med-high heat until they turn golden-brown in color.

6. Once the koftas are ready take them out in a bowl.

For Making the Gravy:

1. In the same pan, remove the excess oil and add hing, methi seeds, and fennel seeds. Let them crackle.

2. Add the chopped onion and fry it until it becomes soft.

3. At this point add the ginger-garlic paste and fry it until the raw flavor is gone.

4. We will now add the tomato puree and fry it until the oil is separated.

5. Add this masala mixture in a grinder and make a smooth paste out of it.

6. In the same pan add more oil and add a tsp of Kashmiri red chili powder. Fry it for few seconds and add the prepared masala paste.

7. Add water in the grinder to remove the remaining masala paste.

8. Cover the lid of the pan and let the gravy simmer for 2 minutes.

9. Once done uncover the lid and add garam masala powder, Kasuri methi, green chilies, and fresh cream.

10. We will now add the fried koftas in the gravy and allow it to soak all the goodness.

11. Cover the lid of the pan and allow it to cook for another 2 mins.

12. Take out the Raw Banana Kofta Curry in a serving bowl and garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and fresh cream. Enjoy!!
