Oats Idli

Hello Fellas.........hope you all are doing good and enjoying the monsoons at your respective places. These days my 3-year-old is keeping me on my toes.............always running behind him for this or that. Moreover their online classes......... that's another story, will write about it in some other post.

As it is said that "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar". In order to stay healthy and energetic throughout the day, it's very important to have a fulfilling breakfast. It is the first meal of the day, and it is the meal that the body uses to top up its glucose levels after 8-12 hours of fasting. If you skip your breakfast, you will have a shorter attention span, be less alert, take longer to react, have low blood sugar, and decreased productivity. So, never ever skip your breakfast.

Coming on to today's post it's all about a breakfast recipe which is not only healthy but fulfilling too. It is packed with nutrients and it requires very little time to prepare. Today's recipe is Oats Idli. Oats are among the healthiest grains on earth. They are gluten-free and a great source of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. There are many health benefits of oats including weight loss, lower blood sugar levels, and a reduced risk of heart disease.

So, without any further ado let's begin with the recipe:

Ingredients:

1. Oats: 1.5 cups
2. Suji: 1 cup
3. Curd: 1 cup
4. Cumin Seeds: 1 tsp
5. Mustard Seeds: 1 tsp
6. Urad Daal: 1 tsp
7. Chana Daal: 1 tsp
8. Curry Leaves: 20-25
9. Grated Ginger: 1 tsp
10. Grated Carrots: 1 cup
11. Chopped Coriander Leaves: 1/4 cup
12. Chopped Green Chilies: 2
13. Turmeric Powder: a pinch
14. Eno: 1 tbsp
15. Salt: to taste
16. Oil: for cooking

Method:

1. Place a pan on medium heat and dry roast the Oats for 5-6 minutes.

2. Add the roasted oats in a grinder and grind them into a fine powder.

3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, chana dal, and curry leaves. Let them crackle.

4. Once done add the grated carrots and cook the mixture for 2 minutes.

5. Now add the grated ginger, green chilies and cook for another minute.

6. At this point add the Suji. Mix everything well and let it cook for 3-4 minutes or until you can see separate grans of suji.

7. Add a pinch of turmeric powder for giving color to our Idlis.

8. Now we will add our oats powder and mix it well with the prepared mixture. Once done switch off the flame and let it cool down.

9. Once the mixture is completely cooled add salt to taste, curd, coriander leaves, and water. Add little water at a time. The consistency of the batter should be similar to the normal idli batter.

10. Cover the batter and let it rest for 20 minutes.

11. Give the batter a nice mix before making the Idlis. Just before making the Idli add the eno and mix it gently with the idli batter.

12. Now take the Idli making pan and brush oil in each of the cavities. Pour a paddle full of Idli batter in each of the cavity.

13. Boil enough water in Idli maker and place the idli pans carefully in it. Cook the Idlis for 8-10 mins on high heat.

14. After 10 mins check the Idlis whether they're cooked or not, if not then cook it again for 2-3 minutes.

15. Once they cool down take them out of the pans using a knife.

16. Serve the Oats Idli with Coconut Chutney. Enjoy!!
