Hello, my foodie friends......I hope this post finds you in the best of your health. Today I'm going to share a very healthy and quick breakfast recipe which is very easy to prepare and requires just 15-20 mins of your time. I can understand how busy mornings are in every household so I always stress on having quick, easy but healthy breakfast recipes that can be prepared in a jiffy.
Rava Idli or Semolina Idlis is a very popular breakfast/tiffin item originated in Bengaluru (then Bangalore) Karnataka. It is a variation of the traditional Rice Idli and is made with Semolina (Rava), curd, and few spices. Rava Idli requires no fermentation so they can be prepared instantly.
Traditional Idlis (recipe here) are made by soaking rice and lentil, grinding, and then fermenting the mixture. Rava Idli is an excellent alternative to this traditional Idli. They are served with Coconut Chutney and Sambhar. If you want you can temper the Rava Idli batter otherwise they can be prepared as it is.
As this Idli recipe doesn't require the hassle of soaking, grinding, and fermenting the batter this Rava Idli is a very consistent breakfast item at my home. Nowadays you can get packaged Rava Idli mix in the stores but nothing can beat the taste and hygiene of homemade food.
So, without any further ado let's begin with the recipe:
1. Semolina (Suji/Rava): 1 cup
2. Curd: 3/4 cup
3. Chana Daal: 1 tbsp
4. Urad Daal: 1 tbsp
5. Mustard Seeds: 1 tbsp
6. Curry Leaves: 20-25
7. Chopped Cashew Nuts: 5-6
8. Eno (Regular): 1/2 tsp
9. Salt to taste
Method:
1. In a bowl add Suji/ Rava, salt, and curd. Mix everything well.
2. Add half a cup of water and again mix everything. Let it rest for about 15 mins.
3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, chana daal, urad daal, chopped cashew nuts and curry leaves. Fry them for a minute. Switch off the flame.
4. After 15 mins check whether the Idli batter. It should be fluffy if required add water. The consistency of the batter should be just like normal Idli batter.
5. Add the prepared tadka in the batter and give the batter a nice mix before making the Idlis.
6. Just before making the Idli add the eno and mix it gently with the idli batter.
7. Now take the Idli making pan and brush oil in each of the cavities. Pour a paddle full of Idli batter in each of the cavity.
8. Boil enough water in Idli maker and place the idli pans carefully in it. Cook the Idlis for 8-10 mins on high heat.
9. After 10 mins check the Idlis whether they're cooked or not, if not then cook it again for 2-3 minutes.
10. Once they cool down take them out of the pans using a knife.
