Perfect Potato Patties

Hello, my foodie friends..........I hope you all are doing great. Today in this blog post we will talk about a very healthy and scrumptious recipe which is an excellent snack item for all the members of the family.
As the monsoon is in full swing our heart and mind always want to munch on something with the evening tea but amid the current situation, we are avoiding eating outside and even buying food items from outside. Sometimes we get bored with the regular snack items and we need something that is yummy and healthy too.

Today's recipe is Potato Patties. This can serve as a great companion with your evening cup of tea. It is very easy to make and taste just awesome. There are two steps in making this recipe:

  • Preparing the filling for the patties
  • Making the wrapper

You can make these wrappers beforehand and freeze them too. So, when you want to have some snacks just take out the wrappers, stuff the filling and fry them. The most important and crucial step in this recipe is to seal the wrappers. If you don't seal the patties properly the filling will ooze out and everything will become a mess. So, be very careful while sealing the patties. Do try this recipe this monsoon season and let us know how do you like it.

So, let's begin with the recipe:

Samosa

Hello, my foodie friends....... I hope you all are doing good and following the lockdown guidelines. These days we all are staying home and experimenting with the food which we used to relish outside or the famous street-side delicacies. My all social media handles are filled with the posts of Pani-puri, Jalebi, Rasgulla, Dhokla, Samosa, and whatnot.

We all love Samosas, isn't it but amid this lockdown neither we can go out nor we can enjoy the outside food. However, this lockdown cannot stop us from enjoying and relishing something homemade. Anything homemade is always better than store-bought or having them at street-side stalls or restaurants. Making Samosa is quite tricky. It involves 3 main steps:
  • Kneading the dough
  • Preparing the filling
  • Making the Samosas
  • Frying the Samosas

I have made Samosa a number of times with different kinds of fillings like potato, cauliflower, chicken, paneer, etc. But perfected this recipe after many years. Making Samosas requires a lot of patience because kneading the dough requires lot of muscle strength and then frying the samosas requires a lot of time.

This Samosa recipe is just perfect to enjoy with your evening cup of tea. I have shared some important tips and tricks to make the Perfect Samosas. So, stay home and enjoy these Samosas with your family. Let's begin with the recipe:

Spicy Chilli Potatoes

Hello Friends..... I hope you all are doing good. As we all know the summer season is here and along with that, all our kids are at home due to the summer vacation. It's always good to involve our kids in our day-to-day activities. All year round they are so busy with their studies and extra-curricular activities that it's hard to make them involved in the household chores.

Whether it's cleaning, dusting, cooking or washing make them involved. They can do their own bit and will learn gradually. My 3 year old loves to help me in the kitchen. Today, in this post I'll be sharing the recipe of Spicy Chilli Potatoes.

This recipe of Spicy Chilli Potato is extra special for me because I have made this recipe along with my 3-year-old son. He has helped me from peeling the potatoes, onions, garlic to adding the sauces in the dish. This is a very simple recipe which can be made in a jiffy.
You can also make this dish if you have any guests at your home and can earn some brownie points.

So, without any further ado let's begin with the recipe:

Bengali Style Aaloor Dom.........Dum Aaloo

Hello, my fellow foodies. Hope you are doing good and enjoying the cool breezy winter season. It's a mid December, but in Kolkata we don't feel the winter as such. Wrapping a light stole in the evening can protect you from the cold.

In Portland, USA, we used to get almost 10 months of winter and I used to get fed up with that kind of weather as you have to clothe yourself in jackets and scarfs etc. You can't dress up in your pretty skirts and dresses :( So, in that way I'm happy as I can wear my skirts, tees even in the mid December.....Lolzzzzz

Winter brings many more things with it. You can enjoy so many delicacies like:
  • Gajar Ka Halwa (Recipe here)
  • Vegetable Croquettes (Recipe here)
  • Motor er Kachuri (Peas Kachori)
  • Gurer Payesh (Palm Jaggery Rice Pudding)
  • Gurer Mishti (Palm Jaggery Sweets) and many more......
From the above list I have already posted few items on the blog and many more are in my bucket. Hope to post their recipes soon. AMEN!!!

Anyway, there is one more item which my family and I enjoy a lot and that is Aaloo r Dom or Dum Aaloo. I have already posted the recipe of Achari Aaloo (Recipe here) which is one of my favorites. This is a more of Bengali style Aalor Dom which you can enjoy with Luchi (Puri) on a cozy Sunday morning.

I like to twist each recipe a bit to give the recipe my personal touch so I did with this recipe too. So, let's go through the recipe to learn more about it and hope you'll like it.

Chilli Fritters/ Rajasthani Mirchi Vada

Last Sunday when I went for my weekly grocery shopping I stumbled upon a basket full of Peppers. These were the big chillies which are usually used to make chilli pickles here in India. I couldn't resist myself buying those beauties.

When I bought those I made up my mind that I'll make chilli pickle out of those peppers, as a result I bought all the ingredients required to make the pickle but all of a sudden my husband requested me to make Fritters with them. So, with all the confusion and my mind dwelling between Fritters and Pickle those peppers were lying in my vegetable basket for a week.

Finally the confusion ended and the battle has been won by Fritters. Finally yesterday I decided to make these fritters in our Tea Time Snacks with a tangy tomato and cilantro chutney.

These fritters are very common in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The chillies are stuffed with spicy potato filling which is seasoned with few spices. Usually these chillies are less hotter than the usual ones which are used for cooking but if you want then you can remove the seeds from them and then fill the stuffing inside.

So, without wasting any time let's check out the recipe and serve it to your family at the tea table. Here's the recipe:

Achari Aaloo.....Pickle Flavored Potatoes

Achari Aaloo.........Aaloo or Potato is very versatile root vegetable which fits into any curry you make. When it comes to Indian cuisine you can see generous use of potatoes. That's why there are so many recipes made with Aaloo whether its Dum Aaloo, Jeera Aaloo, Aaloo Paratha, Samosa and the list is never ending. There's a secret about Bengali's.....they can't imagine their Chicken or Mutton Curries without potatoes........Sssshhhhh

Somehow, I don't like potatoes because it adds lots of extra pounds. So I try to use them as minimum as possible in my daily diet. But, when it comes to Aaloo Paratha or Achari Aaloo I can't resist myself.

Achari Aaloo.....Achar means Pickle in English. But we don't use pickle in this recipe. Instead we use the spices which are used to make pickle to infuse the flavor of pickle. This dish gets its tanginess from Amchur Powder (Dry Mango Powder). You can replace it with vinegar or lime juice. There are many variations of this dish. You can replace potatoes with chicken, mutton, paneer, cauliflower or any other vegetable of your choice.

So, let's start with our finger licking piquant recipe:
